BOROBUDUR TEMPLE

Most of Indonesian people know and recognize Borobudur as one of Seven Miracle Of The World or World Wonder Heritages. Most of them even have visited Borobudur temple several times.

Borobudur is a budhist temple which located in Borobudur village, Magelang city, Central Java province, Indonesia. Location of the temple about 100 km at southwest of Semarang city and 40 km at northwest of Yogyakarta city. The temple was build about year 824 Masehi by King of Samaratungga, a king at a period of governance of Syailendra dinasty. It is said this temple have buried by Merapi mount eruption ( 950M) and just found again at 19th century by Governor General of Java at that time, Sir Thomas Raffles (1814).

Provenance name of Borobudur come from two word " bara" and " beduhur",word bara it is said come from Vihara word, there is also other explaination where bara come from Sanskrit with the meaning temple complex or convent and beduhur its meaning is high. So, Borobudur mean a convent residing in hill or highlands.


Borobudur is biggest of Budhist temple in the world highly 34,5 metre and wide of building 123 x 123 metre. This Budhist temple have 1460 reliefs and 504 stupas of Budha in its complex. Borobudur recognized by the name of HOLY BUILDING 10 STOREY because owning 10 storey(level). This is depict sect philosophy of Mahayana which teaching that everyone which wish to reach level as Budha have to pass ten level of Boddhisatwa

Building of Borobudur in form of punden berundak (holy place which have many stairs) consist of 10 storey. Height 42 metre before renovated and 34,5 metre after renovated because lowest storey used as buffer. Six lowest storey in form of square and three storey above in form of circle and one highest storey in the form of Budha stupa facing towards west. Each level symbolise human life step. According to doctrine of Budha Mahayana, everyone which wish to reach level as Budha must pass every level of life.

Part of base of Borobudur, named as Kamadhatu, symbolising human being which still tied desire/passion. Four level above named as Rupadhatu symbolise human being which have earned to free from passion but still tied form and aspect. At that storey, idol of Budha put down is open. Whereas, three storey above where idol of Budha put down in stupa which have many holes named Arupadhatu, symbolising human being which have freed from passion, aspect, and form. Topmost named as Arupa symbolise nirvana/heaven, place of Budha.


Each level have beautiful reliefs which show skilled its maker. The Reliefs will be read in a series if you walk clockwise ( left direction of temple entrance). At reliefs of Borobudur tell a story about a legendary story, that is Ramayana. Besides, there are also reliefs depicting the condition of that moment society. For example, relief about farmer activity expressing about progress of agriculture system at that moment and sailing boat relief represent of progress of sea transportation which at that time its center in Bergotta (Semarang).

Overall of reliefs exist in Borobudur temple express teaching of the Budha. Hence, this temple can be made as media of education for people who wish to study teaching of Budha. Atisha, a India buddhist at 10th century, have visit to the temple which built 3 centuries before Angkor Wat in Combodia and 4 centuries before Glorious Cathedral in the Europe.

After visit Borobudur and stock of teaching copy of Budha from Serlingpa ( one of the king of Sriwijaya kingdom), Atisha can develop teaching of Budha. He become convent head of Vikramasila and teach tibetan about the way of practicing on Dharma. Six copy of Serlingpa also summarized to become a core of teaching named as " The Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment " which more knowledgeable by the name of Bodhipathapradipa.

One of the question which not answered yet till now about Borobudur is how condition of around the temple when the temple was build and why the temple found in a state of buried. Some telling Borobudur initially standing to circuit by bog then hidden because eruption of mount of Merapi. It is base on the inscription of Kalkutta write down ' Amawa' meaning milk ocean. That word which later interpreted as lava of mount of Merapi. The others tell that Borobudur piled up by cool lava of mount of Merapi.

Invention and Restoration of Borobudur

  • 1814 - Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, Governor General of Great Briton in Java, hearing the existence of invention of ancient object in countryside of Borobudur. Raffles command H.C. Cornelius to investigate invention location, that is in the hill fulfilled by coppice.

  • 1900 - governance of Indies Dutch specify a restoration committee and treatment of Borobudur temple.

  • 1926 - Borobudur re-restored, but desisted in the year 1940 effect of crisis of malaise and World War II
  • 1956Indonesian government ask aid of UNESCO. Prof. Dr. C. Coremans come to Indonesia from Belgia to check causes damage of Borobudur.
  • 1963 - Indonesian government release decree to restore Borobudur, but become disorder after happened event of G-30-S PKI (Party of Indonesian Communist Movement on September 30th ).
  • 1968 - at confrence 15th in French, UNESCO agree to help Indonesia to save Borobudur.
  • 1971 - Indonesian government make restoration committee of Borobudur led by Prof.Ir.Roosseno.

  • 1972 - International Consultative Committee formed by entangling many countries and decide that Roosseno as chief. Committee sponsored by UNESCO provide 5 million United States dollar from expense of restoration 7.750 million United States dollar. The rest accounted by Indonesia.
  • 10 Agustus 1973 - President of Soeharto announce strarting of restoration of Borobudur; restoration finish in the year 1984.
  • 21 Januari 1985 - happened bomb attack damaging some stupa at Borobudur temple which immediately repaired.
  • 1991 - Borobudur specified as World Heritage by UNESCO

GPRS and MMS Settings of Nokia Series 40 (Nokia 2610, 2626, 6300 etc)


I will show you step by step to configure GPRS and MMS with prepaid MENTARI card from
INDOSAT on NOKIA series 40 (Nokia 2610, 2626, 6300 etc)




a.INDOSATGPRS

MENU- Settings- Configuration- Personal configuration settings- Options- Add new- Access point. Then input the following to make indosatgprs access point:
~Account name: Indosatgprs
~Access point settings. Click on it then input the following data:
~Data bearer: Packet data
~Bearer settings. Click on it then input the following data:
Packet data access point: indosatgprs
Network type: IPv4
Authentication type: Normal
User name: indosat
Password: indosat


b. INDOSATWEB

MENU- Settings- Configuration- Personal configuration settings- Options- Add new- Web.
Then input the following data to make indosatweb:
*Account name: indosatweb

*Use preferred access point: Yes


c. INDOSATMMS

MENU- Settings- Configuration- Personal configuration settings- Options- Add new- Multimedia msg.
Then input the following data to make indosatmms:

*Access point settings.
Click on it then input the following data:
*Proxy: Enabled

-Authentication type: Normal

To activate personal configuration,follow these steps:
Menu- Settings- Configuration- Personal configuration settings. It will retrieve: indosatgprs, indosatmms, indosatweb. To activate all of three access points,follow these steps:

point to indosatgprs- Options- Activate. Then point to indosatmms - Options - Activate. The last step, point to indosatweb - Options - Activate.

Then click on Menu - Options-Configuration. Then
*click on Default configuration settings and point to Personal config.-Options- Set as default
*click on Activate default in all aplication. It's finished all steps of indosatgprs and indosatmms settings. You can now use your Nokia 2610 to browsing internet and sending or receiving MMS with prepaid Mentari card from Indosat.

If you use another prepaid card, you have to change the parameters to make configuration of GPRS and MMS. Because each operator use specific parameters to make the connections to their networks.

I will show you step by step how to configure pop3 email of gmail and yahoo.co.id on Nokia 2610 or Nokia series 40 (Nokia 2610,2626,2630,6300 etc)

a. Gmail

For example, i have email account majusell@gmail.com. Before we can access pop3 email from mobile phone, we have to activate pop3 feature gmail on the gmail account on the server.

Menu-Messaging- E-mail -Options-Manage accounts-Options-New-OK-Other.
Then input the following data:

REOG PONOROGO

Reog is an artistry of Ponorogo, East Java, Indonesia which using tiger mask and decoration of peacock feathers. It is a very spectacular dance with several dancers wearing bright colorful costumes accompanied by merry gamelan music. The attendant castanets are kempul, ketuk (knock), kenong, genggam (grasp), ketipung, angklung and especially salompret, voicing tone of slendro and pelog which peeping out mistical atmosfir, bizzare, exotic at the same time awaken enthusiasm.

Reog Ponorogo always played in the open terrain, such as in a square, street etc. This dance which always draws a lot of spectators is a traditional art dance combined with magical show or a trance dance. The Provenance

There is not only one version narrated provenance of artistry of Reog Ponorogo. A book published by local government of Sub-Province of Ponorogo in the year 1993 mentioning, the history of born this artistry at the time of King of Brawijaya 5th have throne in Majapahit kingdom.

The powerful King Kelono Sewandono of Ponorogo Kingdom was famous with his fighting skills and magical power, accompanied by his Patih (Prime Minister) Bujanganom & his strong soldiers were attacked by King Singabarong, The King of Lions of Kediri Jungle, supported by his army, consisted of Lions and Peacocks.

At that time the Ponorogo's group were on the way to The Kingdom of Kediri guarding King Sewandono to marry Dewi Ragil Kuning, a princess of Kediri Kingdom.

There was a big fight between mighty warriors having magical power. The peacocks flew up and down flapping their wings to support The Lions – Singa Barong.

Bujanganom with his magic whip, supported by some Waroks in black traditional dress defeated The King Lion with all his followers.The King of Ponorogo and his soldiers merrily continued their way to Kediri on horse back. Singa Barong joint the procession The Peacocks kept close to Singa Barong opened their tail feathers which looked like beautiful fan.

Nowadays this artistry not only met just in its birth area. Usually one Reog group consist of a Old Warok, a number of Young Warok, pembarong and dancer of Bujang Ganong (Bachelor of Ganong) and Prabu Kelono Suwandono. The Amount range from 20 - 30 peoples, central role reside in the hand of warok and his Pembarong.


The Performance

The central figure of this dance is The Lion King Singa Barong represented by a dancer wearing a mask of a Lion carrying a large peacock feather fan on top of the mask, this mask is locally called : Topeng Dadak Merak. It weight about 50 kg. The dancer has to use his teeth to hold the mask from inside. He must have a very strong set of teeth and neck to move around the mask Dadak Merak. On top of this, he has also to carry a lady representing Princess Ragil Kuning. Or sometimes, he has to demonstrate his skill and strength by carrying another mask dancer on top of him, and still he could dance with vigorous and fantastic movements.

King Kelono Sewandono wearing a mask and a crown is a stylish dancer, Bujanganom also wearing a mask is an acrobatic dancer.

The Waroks in black costumes,

Jatilan - good looking young soldiers riding flat bamboo horses (Kuda Kepang/Kuda Lumping).

Caplokan - Wears a dragon mask to lure Singa Barong to dance more livelly.

It is important to note that a reog dance group must have at least one "Wong Tuwo" (Old Man) or "Wong Pinter" (Clever Man) dealing with magical matters.

In a certain celebration several reog groups could perform together, sometimes until 100 groups.

There is many mistical matter impressing at the opposite of artistry of Reog Ponorogo. Warok for example, is central figure in this artistry which up to now save many matter which controversy enough. Most of peoples assume profile of warok have generated unfavourable image of this artistry.

Besides warok, role of pembarong or lifter of peacock darak, in artistry of Reog Ponorogo, cannot be trifled. More over this artistry rely on strength of body and acrobatic attraction.

Pembarong must have the extra power. He must have strength of good jaw, to detain with its bite of burden of darak peacock namely form tiger head decorated by hundreds of piece of peacock feathers highly two metre which weight can reach about 40 kilogram during a period of show.

But nowadays have birth many young pembarong, which little by little leave things smelling is mistical. They more rational. A pembarong, have to know precisely theory for attraction dadak of peacock. If not, movement a pembarong can be pursued and result to injure.

Every movement for example wagging barongan there is order how feet position, neck movement and also his arms. Usually a pembarong come up at fresh and young age. Before age about 40 year, usually strength of physical a pembarong start provocated and is slowly he will leave its profession.

Nowadays, many pembarong denying usage of occult strength in staging but in fact occult strength is element of spiritual becoming breath of this artistry. It is same as warok, nowadays even also perception of pembarong shifted. More done with rational approach.
